To name the Haramayn like a family business

(Before commencing with this article I wish to point out a slight change in my writing style, beginning with this article. Given that the majority of Muslims are not conversant with Arabic, I believe in the importance of at least maintaining a common vocabulary of words which have general understanding amongst the bulk of Muslims. Thus I only use Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه وسلم   and never accord “Prophet” and the like any special recognition. However, it has been brought to my attention that there are non-Muslim readers of my writings, or rather servants of Allāh who have not gained full understanding as yet. I therefore apologise beforehand if my writing appears clumsier. I am attempting to balance my principles without making Islām seem incoherent and secretive. May Allāh guide me to what is correct and what pleases Him).

In respecting the Ḥaramayn (sacred cities of Makkah and al-Madīnah), Muslims are not following blind custom but uphold the dignity and love Allāh Himself accords them. Even if nothing else were said in the Qurān and Ḥadīth, the affectionate titles Allāh bestows upon them in the Qurān, are sufficient indication for those of intelligence and faith. Thus, Makkah is the Mother of all towns, and al-Madīnah is The Abode (of Migration of Rasūlullāh – Allāh’s Messenger - صلى الله عليه وسلمas well as being the Abode of Faith itself).

And this is a Book which We have sent down, blessed and confirming (The Revelations) which came before it, that you may warn the Mother of Cities and those around her. Those who believe in the Hereafter, believe in it and they guard their prayers. [al-An‘ām: 92]

And those who inhabited the Abode before them and believed [before their arrival] love those who migrated unto them. They found no desire in their hearts for what they had been given, [but instead] preferred them to themselves even if afflicted with dire poverty. Indeed those who save themself from the greed of the self are certainly the successful ones. [al-Ḥashr: 9]

As an extension of their love for Allāh and His Rasūl [Messenger]صلى الله عليه وسلم Muslims call these cities by many other names of respect and affection, e.g. aṭ-Ṭābah, aṭ-Ṭaybah -  the Pure City.  Many of these names originate from Allāh’s Messenger, Muḥammad صلى الله عليه وسلم himself.

Naming a country after a family

The register of crimes of the Satanic Saudi regime includes many which no one ever before had perpetrated. Had these “first-ever” crimes not been so sad, it would have been humorous if one considers that the Saudi regime seems obsessed with labelling any practice they disagree with as “innovation.”  For example, they were the first to invite Christian and Jewish troops to trample the sacred soil of Arabia. They broke with the Islāmic tradition of affectionate names for Makkah and al-Madinah, and most audaciously they have been the first to rename the land as if it is some personal family estate or business, “SAUDI Arabia.”

Yes, had the Āl-Sa‘ūd founded some vegetable shop and called it Saudi Veggies, or keeping with their family activity, had they opened a casino and called it Casino Saud, then that would be their affair, but when they take the historically unprecedented step of naming the sacred lands as if it were their family business, it should be a matter of offence to every Muslim of dignity and concern.

Of great concern is how Muslims not only do not realise the gravity of this offence, or that it is an offence, but that that they casually say that they are visiting “Saudi/ Saudiyah”!!! Is that name integral to your understanding of the sacred cities? Why not drop the pernicious title of Islām’s enemies and say, “Arabia” instead? Indeed the best slave is one who does not realise he is a slave. How can Muslims accept this insult to the dignity of Islām when even the Christian monarchies never acted so arrogantly?

Christian Monarchies

·         Queen Elizabeth’s surname is supposedly Windsor, but that is a name to hide her German surname of Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha. In either case, her family has never arrogated either name over England or the United Kingdom, nor have any of the previous ruling families such as the Plantagenets, Hanoverians, Stuarts etc. The House of Saud supersedes them all in arrogance.

·         English ruling houses were relatively short-lived compared to the Capetians, who together with their relatives the Bourbons, ruled France from 987-1848. Nine centuries, but was France ever anything other than France? What utter arrogance, O House of Saud!

·          The Hohenzollerns ruled a little European county, Zollern, from before 1061. Eight centuries of epic expansion finally led to one of them being crowned over the united country of …. Hohenzollernia? No! One would think that if any family had the right to name their land after themselves it would be the family which took 8 centuries to unite their country. Yet they too did not have the arrogance of the House of Saud. A Hohenzollern was crowned in 1871 as GERMAN Emperor.

An Exception

The Saudis are not entirely alone however. Yet the nature of their company only emphasises the conceit of these two bedfellows.

The Liechtensteins bought Schellenberg in 1699 and Vaduz in 1712 for political reasons. In 1719 they were incorporated as the Principality of Liechtenstein. Since the “country” was bought solely for political reasons, no Liechtenstein prince even bothered to set foot in the county for over 120 years!

How similar to the Saudis who are more at home in their villas in Spain and France than in the land they named after themselves and which they milk like a cow.

Innovation

The innovation-obsessed Saudis need to answer for their criminal innovation of naming the sacred land of Makkah and al-Madīnah as if they are their family fiefs. This is an innovation no one before committed. This is but one crime out of many which make them wholly unsuited to rule a single grain of the sacred soil of Arabia. It is also a cover for their false claims of legitimacy. By maintaining silence on this matter, the Muslims too become complicit in the crimes of the Satanic Saudi regime. May Allāh grant that we see a day when the sun will rise on an Arabia free of the Saudi pollutant.

Weeping over the Syrian Limb when the Arabian Head has been chopped

An-Nu ‘mān bin Bashīr رضى الله عنه narrated that Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم  said:

The example of the believers in regards their mutual love, mercy and affection, is that of the body. When a limb of the body suffers, the rest of the body responds with sleeplessness and fever. [Muslim]

Palestine, Kashmir, Iraq, Bosnia, Burma, Syria….. the list of wounded suffering limbs of the body of al-Islām grows ever longer. Allāh knows best, but it seems naïve to think that no more limbs will be added to this blood drenched list.

Each time another limb of Islām’s wounded body is bitten and mauled by Satan’s wild dogs, we witness the fulfilment of the above words of Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم. Irrespective of geographical location and ethnicity, the Ummah invariably feels the pain and each reacts according to his or her capacity. Some render financial assistance; some sacrifice their time; and some are not satisfied until they earn the highest stages of al-Jannah through the supreme payment of their lives.

Truly this feeling which Allāh has placed in our hearts, is a unique miracle of Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم and must remain an outstanding feature of this Ummah. Those nations which have not as yet blessed with Islām may indeed form alliances and assist each other, but never do they experience the, “mutual love, mercy and affection…” which is the legacy of our Nabī صلى الله عليه و سلم. Thus Catholic France declared war against a Germany dominated by Protestant militant Prussia, solely for political reasons and not out of any intrinsic love for fellow Catholic Poland.  Emotions which are natural to the Muslims are alien to them.

Whether in worldly matters or spiritual, complacency leads to degeneration. Progress is not an option, but a non-negotiable requirement. Rightly we bandage and tend to cut fingers and hands, the limbs of Islām, but why is it that we never heed our head – Arabia? It really boggles the mind that in a myriad different ways the Satanic Saudi regime continuously stabs at the head of Islām, yet there is hardly a whimper from the same Ummah which would not tolerate a far lesser insult to the dignity of Islām, if perpetrated outside the sacred soil of Arabia.

Why has this contradiction arisen? It is my view that globally, the Muslim leadership (countries, communities and organisations) has vested financial and other interests in the Saudi regime. The common Muslim can inshāallāh be awoken to his or her responsibility if the facts are excavated from the darkness which self-interest has flung them into. I believe that it is long overdue that this Ummah turns its attention to its poor neglected head and not only its limbs.

I hope to join the ranks of the few who speak the bitter truth about Islām’ head, occupied by a British installed regime which now worships America as Lord. I have spoken on this matter at Jumu‘ah talks and will inshāallāh write further. May Allāh guide my tongue and hand and purify my heart. May He awaken this long slumbering Ummah.

Muslims who demolish the Masjid and preserve idols

Since a picture paints a thousand I present you with two pictures, both have something in common.  Look at them carefully and decide what they have in common before reading further.

[caption id="attachment_267" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Masjid al-Ghamaamah[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_268" align="aligncenter" width="137"] Arabian idol[/caption]

Okay, what both have in common is that different people claim what is depicted as a heritage. The first depicts Masjid al-Ghamāmah, where Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم performed ‘Īd Ṣalāh. His followers claim to love him and have affection for anything which reminds them of him. So what do they do? They planned to demolish this site, just as they demolished almost every possible site connected to him.

The second picture depicts pre-Islāmic idols of Arabia. The followers of  Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم are well aware of Allāh’s command in the Qurān to purify His House of the idols it contained at the time.  They are also aware that Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم physically fulfilled that command on the day he conquered Makkah. Yet what do they do? They declare that these idols are in fact their heritage and spend funds of the Ummah in preserving and promoting what Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم would have smashed.

To summarise, if you love Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم you must erase anything connected to him because his heritage is idolatry, and you must preserve the idols he smashed and declare them instead to be your heritage.

No, I have not taken advantage of Washington state’s legalisation of marijuana. I have not flown there and smoked while writing this. This is the reality and the double standards of the Ḥaramayn authorities.

We have recently discussed attempts to eradicate some of the last sites of the Haramayn heritage. I now quote from a BBC report regarding the same authorities attitude to these idols.
But the Saudi royal family has embraced the discoveries in the Arabian Peninsula and is vigorously promoting further research

.... Prince Sultan is the president of the Saudi commission for tourism and antiquities. He hopes that interest in the past will encourage tourism in the future. He also wants Saudis themselves - especially young people - to better understand their heritage.

"This is a complete revolution in Saudi Arabia when it comes to elevating the culture and the history of the country to the level it deserves," he says.

"Within the next three years, Saudis will wake up to knowledge about their own country that has been missing throughout their lives."

Several new museums are being planned with "big budgets" according to the prince, and international teams of archaeologists are working alongside Saudi scientists and historians. But Prince Sultan says his country wants to maintain control over its own heritage.

Tribal heritage takes preference over Islāmic heritage

One has to ask why is showing affection to the great personalities of Islām, to whom Allāh Himself expresses love, a reprehensible deed while commemorating tribal chiefs is an act of virtue? Note the naming of the gates of al-Masjid al-Ḥarām, universities, institutes, foundations etc after tribal chiefs who served the interests of the British and Americans over the interests of Islām.

Note the destruction of Masājid and the preservation of idols.

Note the very name of the kingdom overseeing the Ḥaramayn. It glorifies a desert chief and his clan. Yet the same authorities condemn the heritage of the best generation of Muslims.

The kingdom has two UNESCO heritage sites:

  • Al-Ḥijr – a place cursed in the Qurān and which Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم advised against tarrying therein. Yet the authorities. Promote this as part of their heritage and ask tourists to flock there.

  • At-Turayf – birthplace of the ruling clan.

The same authorities who turned the house of Khadījah  رضى الله عنها  into a toilet whilst preserving the fort of Ka‘b bin  Ashraf, the Jew who used to abuse Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم.

These are the heritages of the kingdom which demolishes the legacy of Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم – idols, tribal glory and Jewish relics. It is no wonder that some promote the theory that the clan is not even Arab, but crypto Jews. I find the evidence rather thin, but their behaviour doesn’t add to their defence.

A Glimmer of hope

The Ḥaramayn authorities have realised their error in their plans to destroy al-Ghamāmah. May Allāh reward all who have been instruments, one way or the other, in bringing about this change. We pray that Allāh guides them further to promote our Islāmic heritage instead of paganism and tribalism.

Idols are heritage, Masjid is Shirk!

This really takes the cake! Jaahiliyah idols are heritage but Masaajid are Shirk? In the light on our discussion on the endangered Haramayn Heritage this is really nauseating.

Please read this BBC report on "Saudi art" My further comment is not necessary.

Petition Closed

Veterans of the heritage presevation struggle have informed me that although our petition is well intentioned, petitions only serve to provoke the authorites to further eradication of these sites. I am therefore closing the petition.

I do however encourage all Brothers and Sisters to continue creating awareness. Our lack of awareness is part of the problem.

If permission is received, I shall post the correspondence I received.

Update 2: Veterans of the heritage presevation struggle have informed me that although our petition is well intentioned, petitions only serve to provoke the authorites to further eradication of these sites. I am therefore closing the petition.

I do however encourage all Brothers and Sisters to continue creating awareness. Our lack of awareness is part of the problem.

Update: Brother Ibrahim Musa will be hosting me on Channel Islam International to discuss this topic. Tuesday 30 Oct 2012, 21:15 Central African time.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

A poet described his reason for kissing al-Hajar al-Aswad (the Black Stone at the Ka'bah) as an attempt to kiss "the kiss" of Allah's Beloved Rasūl صلى الله عليه و سلم who had placed his lips on it.

Of course, such poetic fancy has neither juristic basis nor real application. The Stone had split asunder centuries ago. Some people lose their rewards by violently shoving others aside to reach the Stone, all to merely kiss the casing which encloses the remains of the Stone.

That aside, as lovers of Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم we can surely understand the emotions of the poet. The love a Muslim feels for Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم cannot be understood by non-Muslims. Such is his miracle, that centuries after his uttering a Hadith, interacting with some object or passing by some place, that Hadith, object or place can reduce his follower to tears; affect his tiniest actions such as the way he eats; or can be the cause of changing his entire life. (On the other hand, I still feel disgust at the phoney relics I saw at the Shaahi Masjid in Lahore. People who sell their religion for a few bucks... urgh!!!)

Abdullah bin Umar رضي الله عنه paused during his journey because that was the place where Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم stopped to relieve himself. A jurist of the level of Ibn Umar رضي الله عنه certainly understood far better than us, that the essence and priority of the Sunnah lies in the beliefs, deeds and character of  Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم  not the place where he performed an action. Yet those who were in the blessed company of Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم demonstrated their love to those places associated with Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم even if it was just the place of his toilet!

Allah, the Knower of the unseen, knew full well that there would be major logistic difficulties in fulfilling the Hajj after 14 centuries. In His infinite mercy He could have granted the Ummah license to perform the same rituals of  Hajj in their own homelands, or at least in their own continents. Allah however insists not only on commemorating the deeds of His friend Ibrahim alayhis salaam in the Hajj,  but the place of the deeds of Allah's Khaleel is also beloved unto Allah.

Your deeds are your rulers

The Haramayn (Makkah and al-Madinah) have seen many rulers over the centuries, including Rawaafid (Shi'ah). Yet at no point in history has the Ummah demonstrated such apathy to the heritage of Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم as we do at present. The Ummah is more capable of proudly rattling off Manchester scores and which actor is fornicating with which actress, than being able to mention the wives and children of Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم . Hence in line with the Hadith, "Your deeds are your rulers," Allah has placed such rulers over the Haramayn since 1923, who have systematically demolished all physical traces of Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم.

For example, the house of our Mother, Khadijah رضي الله عنها , is now a toilet! Let me spell it out. The house Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم went to immediately after receiving his first revelation is now a place of urine. The house he would go to after being abused by the idolators and there receive the comfort of our Mother, is now a place of excreta. The house all his children were born in, except one, is now a place of filth, sewage and stench. It is to be hoped that this saddens a Muslim more than if Barcelona lost a match.

Makkah or New York?

The rulers of the Haramayn may have in  mind that they have millions of pilgrims to serve, and they require the space occupied by these heritage sites. Such may be their good intentions but consider the following:

  • Millions of Catholics visit Rome. They are catered for without demolishing the Roman heritage sites, which are pagan, not Catholic.

  • 95% of centuries old heritage sites in Makkah have been demolished in the past two decades alone. Why cannot the authorities consult with Ulama, architects, engineers, archeologists etc as to the best way to create utility without destroying the last few sites  related to Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم ?

  • We have to be pragmatic. Change is a reality and a necessity. However, what is not necessary is to turn Makkah into another NewYork. Are there no Muslim architects who can help new developments blend into an Islamic Makkah instead of New York? As the Saudi architect Sami Angawi said about the Haramayn, " Both are historically almost finished. You do not find anything except skyscrapers."

Masjid al-Ghamaamah

We have recently performed our Eid Salaah. Are we aware that the new expansions in the Haramayn are putting the last sites associated with  Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم at risk, including Masjid al-Ghamaamah where Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم performed his Eid Salaah. once these last vestiges are removed, what trace of Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم will remain in  the Haramayn. It is long overdue that the Ummah awakes to its responsibility and save what's left of the Haramayn heritage. If the ongoing New Yorkification of the Haramayn continues, future generations already imbued with Western culture, will find it impossible to identify with an Islamic past.

Call to Action

Ultimately nothing can change except through the command of Allah. Yet if we act, Allah's mercy might be drawn and He will change matters.

  • More serious than buildings is our blatant ignorance and apathy in regards the biography of Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم. Let us study the Seerah with the importance it deserves.

  • Please sign this petition which will be sent to the Ministry of Culture.

  • Kindly forward this article to other Muslims.

  • Discuss the situation and create awareness amongst the Ummah. Utilise whatever platform you have at your disposal.

  • Please leave your comment below. There are surely ideas you can present and your words as an Ummati will be appreciated as well.

May Allah grant us success in our endevours to link ourselves to Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه و سلم.
